Canon has launched the EOS 5D Mark IV, the successor to the EOS 5D Mark III.
It features a 30.4 megapixel CMOS sensor with wide exposure latitude, seven frames per second high speed shooting, internal 4K movie recording and built-in Wi-Fi and GPS. It is also the first EOS camera to premiere the dual pixel RAW file format, allowing photographers to fine-tune images in post-production by adjusting or correcting the point of sharpness, shifting the foreground bokeh or reducing image ghosting.
Roger Machin, the product manager: professional imaging Canon SA, told The Margin that the dual pixel function allowed photographers to make micro sharpness adjustments.
"If you’re shooting a portrait and the nose is in focus but they eyes are just not sharp enough, you can sharpen it up a little bit. It’s not a saving grace, but another tool for professional photographers to increase their hit ratio."
He said that while the Mark III had been the 'Swiss Army knife of cameras' and was versatile enough to do landscapes, architecture, fashion or action and sport, people should not feel heartbroken now that its replacement had been launched.
Roger MachinMachin said Canon had surveyed professional photographers around the world about what improvements they wanted in the Mark IV, and had been told they wanted Wi Fi.
"It’s a huge advantage. In this modern age of sharing, people want instant gratification. When they're taking photographs they want them on Facebook, in their Twitter feed and on Instagram, while they’re still shooting."
He said they had already sold the first two batches before they had even landed in the country.
With an ISO range of 100 to 32000, expandable from 50 up to 102400, images can be captured in an array of lighting environments. The enhanced noise processing algorithm also improves low light shooting.
The camera is capable of shooting at seven frame a second at full resolution, with full AF/AE tracking.
